Events

Over its three-year lifespan, the following events have established TPC as a vibrant, multi-continental community that is actively working toward aligning large-scale AI strategies, sharing resources, and building a robust ecosystem of tools and methods.

During these gatherings, TPC held training sessions, thematic workshops, plenaries, and breakout sessions for working groups, ensuring a cycle of continuous progress, evaluation, and adjustment.

August 2023

Argonne National Laboratory,
United States

The inaugural TPC workshop attracted approximately 73 in-person and 117 remote participants. They self-organized into initial working groups, laying the groundwork for what would become TPC’s working group structure.

February 2024

SupercomputingAsia,
Sydney, Australia

About 100 TPC participants came together during the SupercomputingAsia conference. Activities included a tutorial on large-scale AI, birds-of-a-feather sessions, and hybrid working group discussions. These sessions enriched collaborative relationships and refined early plans.

May 2024

International Supercomputing Conference,
Hamburg, Germany

A TPC workshop, capped by room capacity at roughly 80 participants, highlighted global AI projects and provided a forum to discuss emerging opportunities and challenges, thus expanding TPC’s visibility in Europe.

June 2024

Barcelona Supercomputing Center,
Barcelona, Spain

Over 190 participants from 16 countries gathered to hold plenary discussions, 12 working group breakouts, and a comprehensive tutorial on AI for Science. This meeting intensified the community’s momentum, set specific collaborative targets, and provided hands-on training.

October 2024

Argonne National Laboratory and The University of Chicago,
United States

Three TPC working groups—focusing on data and training, model architectures and performance, and safety and trust—organized a joint hackathon. Approximately 50 participants attended in person, with additional remote participants, making substantial progress on shared tasks.

November 2024

Supercomputing 2024,
Atlanta, United States

Approximately 200 participants joined a TPC workshop that showcased multi-institutional collaborative projects and updates on community efforts. From a call for extended abstracts, 12 were chosen for presentation out of 33 submissions. Concurrently, European TPC leaders met to explore new funding support from the European Commission, aiming to strengthen the consortium’s global reach.

March 2025

RIKEN Center for Computational Science, Kobe, Japan

130 participants from around the world attended the TPC Winter Hackathon, featuring a full-day tutorial on “Leveraging and Evaluation of LLMs as Scientific Assistants” followed by two days of breakouts focused on Architectures, Evaluation, and Life Sciences AI challenge problems.

March 2025

SupercomputingAsia, Singapore

TPC participants gathered for a six-hour workshop on “Harnessing the Power of Generative AI for Science and Engineering” that provided a forum for continuing to develop a shared vision and goals for accelerating the use of generative AI for science and engineering.

May 2025

CSC-IT Center for Science, Helsinki, Finland

The TPC26 Spring Hackathon featured a two-day intensive hackathon with four breakout groups, followed by a combined hackathon to take place on an Internet-connected rail trip to tour the Lumi supercomputing facilities in Kajaani, Finland.

June 2025

International Supercomputing Conference, Hamburg, Germany

TPC participants attend a four-hour workshop on “Synthetic Data, Trust, and Scale to Advance Reliable AI Models for Science with HPC and Multilingual Insights” that included components on accessibility and democratization as well as collaboration.

July 2025

TPC25, San Jose, United States

Almost 200 participants from around the world spent 1.5 days learning to build and extend AI agents tailored to scientific challenges, particularly in biology and chemistry, or teaching those who needed to learn these skills.

September 2025

Argonne National Laboratory and The University of Chicago, United States

More than 40 researchers and technology vendors from the US and Asia participated in this unusual hackathon — rather than hacking code, they hacked plans for large-scale collaborations among those individuals and institutions who are interested and able.

November 2025

Supercomputing 2025, St. Louis, United States

TPC participants attended a full-day workshop that aspired to stimulate new thinking, attract scientists to some of the emerging challenges associated with generative AI, and potentially catalyze the formation of new topical collaborative working groups that can be supported by TPC.
